Introduction: An important feature of social networks is sharing of knowledge and improving the quantity and quality of social capital. This study investigates the impact of virtual social networks on social capital and organizational learning capabilities with regard to the mediating role of helpful actions.
Method: The statistical population of the study consisted of all employees and managers of Mazandaran Province Roads and Urban Development Bureau (402 persons). For this purpose, 198 questionnaires were collected using multi-stage cluster method based on Morgan table. Data were collected through validated social capital questionnaires with 24 questions, 4-question supportive actions, 17-question organizational learning abilities, and 18-question virtual social network. The validity of the questionnaire was verified using confirmatory factor analysis and its reliability was assessed by Cronbach’s alpha.
Findings: Hypothesis testing with LISREL software showed that virtual social network has an effect on social capital, organizational learning capability and helpful actions. It was also found that social capital has an effect on organizational learning capability and subsidiary actions have an effect on organizational learning capability.
Discussion: Social capital affects the ability of organizational learning through direct and indirect actions. In other words, due to the role of helpful activities with the promotion of social capital based on the virtual social network, the capacity of organizational learning increases.
