Abstract:   (17 Views)
Introduction: Lifestyle is considered one of the key concepts in contemporary social sciences, having gradually gained prominence in modern socio-cultural studies. This research aims to provide a sociological explanation of the dynamics of lifestyle among retired older adults individuals.
Method: This study was conducted using a qualitative approach and thematic analysis. The sampling process began with purposive sampling and subsequently continued through theoretical sampling until theoretical data saturation was achieved. Semi-structured interviews were used as the primary data collection tool. The participants consisted of 25 retired older adults and 15 experts in the field of aging. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis.
Findings: Analysis of the findings led to the identification of three strategies: social agency, identity reflexivity, and learning new skills.
Discussion: The findings indicated that the dynamics of older adults’ lifestyles constitute an interactive process in which older adults redefine the meaning of their lives and their social roles through identity reflexivity, thereby moving from passivity toward conscious agency. The three strategies—social agency, identity reflexivity, and learning new skills—demonstrate older adults’ capacity to actively confront the challenges of aging.
