Introduction: Psychopathy, as a complex personality disorder, affects individual interactions and the perception of emotions and can lead to harmful behaviors. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the mediating role of empathy in the relationship between family emotional atmosphere and affiliation with delinquent peers with psychopathic personality in adolescents. Method: The present study was a cross-sectional study with a correlational design. The research sample included 382 tenth and eleventh grade students who were selected through convenience sampling from all second high school students in Rasht in the second semester of 1402. To collect data, the Levenson Self-Report Psychopathy Scale (1995), the Family Emotional Atmosphere Questionnaire (Bern, 1964), the Adolescent Affiliation With Deviant Peers Scale (Paschal et al, 2003), and the Adolescent Measure of Empathy and Sympathy (Vozzen et al, 2015) were used. In order to analyze the data, the modeling method based on path analysis was used. Findings: The research results show that both variables of family emotional atmosphere and affiliation with delinquent peers were related to adolescent psychopathy, both directly and through the mediating effect of empathy (p<0.05). Discussion: Empathy plays an important role as a mediating factor in the relationship between family emotional atmosphere and affiliation with delinquent peers with psychopathic personality in adolescents. These findings highlight the importance of paying attention to mediating factors in the psychological processes of adolescents and can provide strategies for intervention and prevention of psychopathic behaviors in this age group.
