Emotion animates life. It accounts for the depths and peaks of daily existence the memorable richness and darkest moments of individual experience. Nowadays, to have focuse to the theoretical and applied concepts of studies about relation between emotion and cognition, and to the findings of studies on the domain of emotional intelligence (EI), marital adjustment, and relationship between them has become a basis for planning strategies and programes for prevention of marital discord. At this point, many studies have demonstrated that the EI is a fundamental and effective construct in improving and enhancing of satisfactory marital relationships. Specificly, its basic role in the relation to some components of it like perception, reasoning about and control of emotions, interpersonal relationships and empathy communication and resolution of marital conflicts, and problem solving is much more prominent. Because, when couples have used such skills in their dyadic relationships, then they can cope much better with the stressors of marital life. By attention to such useful effects, the present models of EI and its various components along with the preventive intervention strategies can be used for some problems like marital difficulties. Also, by using the present techniques of family and marital therapy and educational programs, which were well studied from the experimentally point of view, we can enhance their effectivenesses. Therefore, the aim of this article is to mention the role of EI in the domain of interpersonal and marital relationships according to approaches, strategies and educational programs for improving and resolving of discordant couples problems.
