Abstract: (15 Views)
Introduction: Health extends beyond the absence of disease and is influenced by various environmental, behavioral, and socioeconomic factors. Therefore, treatment-based approaches are insufficient, and structural and population-based strategies are needed. Community health assessment using both quantitative and qualitative data along with stakeholder participation helps identify needs and design interventions. Despite challenges in the localized implementation of participatory frameworks, this study conducts a participatory health assessment of the Manzariyeh, Shahrekord.
Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in the Manzariyeh neighborhood of Shahrekord during the summer and autumn of 2025. The study population consisted of residents aged 18 years and older, and the required sample size was determined to be 368 participants. Convenience sampling was conducted at various locations across the neighborhood to ensure diversity in the sampled population. Community health assessment was performed based on the North Carolina State Community Health Assessment Model and its adapted Iranian version. Data were collected through a 77-item checklist, stakeholder interviews, direct observation, and secondary data obtained from health centers and the Sib electronic health system. Questionnaire data were analyzed using descriptive statistics in SPSS version 27. Finally, the identified health problems were prioritized using the Hanlon Matrix based on the criteria of problem magnitude, consequences, urgency of intervention, and feasibility.
Findings: The mean age of the participants was 38.93 ± 11.23 years, and 63.6% were female. Overall, quality of life in the Manzariyeh neighborhood was at a moderate level across most dimensions. The highest levels of dissatisfaction were reported regarding access to green spaces (47.8%), recreational activities (34.5%), employment opportunities (22.1%), construction waste disposal (19.0%), and street cleaning (16.3%). Furthermore, 73.9% of participants rated their access to healthcare services as moderate to very poor, with cost, geographical distance, and limited availability of service providers identified as the main barriers. According to the Hanlon Matrix, inadequate access to green spaces, improper construction waste disposal, and inadequate access to recreational activities were ranked as the top priorities among the health and quality-of-life issues in the neighborhood.
Discussion: The community health status in the Manzarieh, Shahrekord is influenced by a set of multidimensional challenges spanning individual, environmental, health service, and socioeconomic social factors. The distribution pattern of the identified problems indicates that the predominant burden of health issues in this region is largely multidimensional and structural, rather than purely individual in nature.
