Abstract:   (2498 Views)
Introduction: Punitive-Tolerant doctrines as two dominant approaches in the field of drug-related crimes are the site of discourse-value conflict of two different perspectives. Proponents of these two paradigms, with specific social, political, economic, and human understandings, attempt to frame their ideas in the response system as the dominant hegemonic discourse.
Method: The present study attempts to analyses “Metri Shish-o Nim” (In English: Just 6.5 or Six and a Half Meters) movie in the light of describing the historical and social context of the Wodaks discourse by emphasizing the importance of crime control policies in the light of the concept of punitive efficiency and focusing on existing discourse developments as well as understanding the historical and social contexts of Iran.
Findings: In this movie, the police are represented as an institution that endorses punitiveness policies. However, the lack of an independent body that rejects the tough policies in the movie has led the author to criticize punishment. The director rejects tough penal policy in this sphere based on the four discourse components of deterrence, economic inequality, the failure of the police-judicial system to identify key leaders, and legislative shortcomings.
Discussion: The author’s criticism of punitiveness is in line with empirical-scientific findings, and it is also consistent with the discourse of critical currents; however, the author’s excessive identification with delinquency, maladaptive generalization, sensitization of atmosphere, disregard for procedural rules, and lack of understanding of practical procedures still can be seen in the movie. The death penalty shows that the author has ignored some of the facts in rejecting penal policies.
