Abstract: (8 Views)
Health is an important and inseparable part of human life, and various factors affect it, one of the most important of which is economic freedom. Increasing economic freedom increases the transfer of health professionals and patients as consumers of this sector, the use of up-to-date technologies in providing health and treatment services, increasing access to medicines, etc., which increase the level of health in society; but on the other hand, economic freedom can be a threat to health in various ways, such as the widespread and rapid spread of infectious and contagious diseases, environmental pollution, changing dietary patterns, and stress. Therefore, since theoretically, the positive or negative effect of economic freedom on the health index is uncertain, it is necessary to estimate this relationship in different samples. Therefore, in this research, the effect of economic freedom on the health index in two groups of selected countries in East and West Asia during the period 2000-2020 has been examined.
Method
In the econometric model of this research, which is a linear model and estimated using the Panel Data method, the health index (under-five mortality) is entered as the dependent variable.
Findings
The results of this study show that the variables information and communication technology, urbanization rate, and economic freedom have positive and significant effects on the health index in both East and West Asian countries, and government public health expenditure has a positive and significant effect on the health index in East Asia.
Discussin
Based on the findings of this research, it can be concluded that increasing economic freedom improves the health index in Asian countries. Therefore, it is suggested that Asian countries, including Iran, abolish special privileges and economic monopolies and expand economic freedom in order to improve the health index.
