Abstract
Introduction: The present study aims to explore and identify the strategies employed by married working women to achieve a balance between work and life.
Method: This study employed a qualitative research method, with participants consisting of married working women who were born and reside in the city of Sanandaj. Using purposive sampling and a maximum variation strategy, 20 participants were selected based on the principle of theoretical saturation. Data were collected through in-depth, semi-structured interviews. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis based on Braun and Clarke’s approach.
Findings: The strategies of married working women for achieving work-life balance were categorized into 5 main themes (realism, time management, self-care for physical and mental health, claiming rights, and attention to social etiquette) and 14 sub-themes (balanced expectations of oneself, avoiding comparison with others, effort and hard work, planning, prioritization, division of labor, avoiding time-wasting, timely execution of tasks, physical care, mental care, claiming rights, social courtesy, modesty and chastity, respect for privacy).
Discussion: Working women, through realism and self-care for both physical and mental health, along with time management of their activities and attention to social etiquette, have pursued their rights and made satisfactory efforts to establish balance between work and life.
