The purpose of this research is to use qualitative methods and multiple sources of information to identify the different characteristics of voluntary work in the field of child labor and street children in Tehran city. The study also investigates the social sociological factors, cultural conditions, and motivating beliefs behind individuals' voluntary work in supportive and service-providing centers, such as civil society organizations, for these children.These individuals often dedicate significant time to working with children at their own expense, engaging in activities without receiving any pay. Although their actions are crucial for non-governmental organizations, they are also highly valued by governments as they are viewed as selfless supporters. Therefore, exploring the goals, overt and covert objectives, performance and efficiency of volunteers, their cultural background, the reasons for their attraction to child labor and street children, and how they select charitable centers to assist these children can help us understand the reasons behind individuals' voluntary work in these centers and leverage their human and cultural capital. Furthermore, this research can help clarify the level and reasons for social participation and enable governmental organizations to identify volunteers, understand their cultural motivations, and provide a suitable platform to attract their skills and expertise.
Method: The objective of this study is to conduct an extensive sociological examination of the reasons why individuals choose to engage in unpaid work at charity centers that support child labor and street children, by utilizing the Grounded Theory method.
Findings: A total of 1761 codes were collected, which were later distilled into 57 categories. The primary categories identified in this study are as follows: creating a new identity, gaining social acceptance, responding to social concerns, demonstrating effectiveness and usefulness, compensating for governmental inadequacies, and voluntary membership.
Discussin: By analyzing the data obtained from both the studies and interviews, two paradigm models were constructed, ultimately leading to the presentation of the “volunteerism” paradigm model, which was based on the research methodology employed.The primary category identified was “creating a new identity”.
